Homosexuality Was Not the Only Problem

Leslie Basham: After coming to faith in Christ and leaving her lesbian lifestyle, Jackie Hill Perry met another believer who began to disciple her in gospel truth.

Jackie Hill Perry: She let me understand, “Jackie, homosexuality is not your only problem. Pride is a challenge, fear is a problem, lust is a problem, stewardship is a problem. You need to learn how to make God Lord in everything, not just in your sexuality.”

If you have younger children with you, know that today’s program has some mature themes. Jackie Hill Perry: I Loved My Girlfriend—but God Loved Me More

God knew he wouldn’t get my attention in a church. Churches didn’t care too successfully for people love me. Me, entity a gay miss. A gay lady who knew beat than to allow my feet obtain me where I didn’t feel welcomed. So God came to my home. I was having a very “unspiritual” kind of overnight. The TV was on. The morning was hours away. My thoughts were boring and characteristic until they turned on me. As suddenly and randomly as Paul was struck blind on the Damascus Highway, I had the unsettling thought that my sin would be “the death of me.”

When it happened on the playground, I didn’t know what it was. I didn’t quite understand why girls made me feel different. I hadn’t seen any Disney movies that gave me the idea to want sameness nor had I been challenged by some outside

Your Sexuality Does Not Explain You

Amidst the raft of books tackling the topic of the gospel and homosexuality, Gay Girl, Great God by Jackie Hill Perry is one of the best. Autobiographical, but drenched in Scripture, Hill Perry teaches through her story as she addresses thorny and hard issues head-on. She holds out biblical truth, unflinchingly applying it to her possess life, and by implication the life of the reader.

Beautiful and Precise

As a spoken-word poet, Hill Perry is a master wordsmith. I love the way she beautifully yet precisely articulates the complexities of being a same-sex attracted woman who is then confronted by Jesus and almost immediately sees that she can no longer live a lesbian lifestyle. She invites readers to accompany her on her journey of conversion, and on into the war between the Spirit and her sinful flesh.

While the book follows her story of repentance and faith, tracking with the battle against her queer desires, Hill Perry makes it very clear that her sinfulness is not limited to her sexuality. When Jesus claims her as His own, He
