Guerillas on the town

ANTIGONISH, N.S. (CUP) – Imagine the scene that occurs when an unsuspecting bar crowd sipping pints at the local pub is infiltrated by a hundred members of a guerrilla insurgency collectively clothed in plaid, stripes, or a vibrant shade of yellow, adding colour to an otherwise accepted Friday night.

Patrons at several Halifax bars acquire witnessed this very event, watching on as a camouflaged crew enters en masse, swarming a standard downtown establishment.

The “insurgents” in question are members of Guerrilla GayFare Halifax (GGF), an LGBTQ organization that plots secret monthly “takeovers” of local bars.

Inspired by the achievement of similar groups in cities throughout Canada and the United States, GGF launched its first takeover in February of , targeting Tribeca, a well-liked nightclub in downtown Halifax.

More than 80 participants donning the night’s designated “camouflage” – red and pink clothing – attended the initial takeover.

With mention of “guerrillas,” “insurgencies,” and “camouflage,” one might envision GGF as a group of militant activists, but curre

Gay Halifax

Canada’s charming colonial city by the sea holds a secret: despite its small size, it’s home to a thriving gay community fuelled by a large and diverse student population, the city’s status as Maritime Canada’s regional hub and, ahem, the city’s largest employer, the Canadian Navy. There’s plenty here in Nova Scotia for the gay traveller to appreciate, and the welcoming Maritime attitude will make you feel at home right away.
On a summer day, Halifax’s bustling port is where the deed is. The pleasant boardwalk features the usual touristy shopping and buskers, but it is a superb starting point for a trip into Halifax’s seafaring history. Historic ships line the harbour, and guided tours can be arranged at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. Down the harbour, you’ll discover the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, the port through which more than a million immigrants entered Canada in the 20th century. Along the stroll, you’re sure to spot some of Canada’s finest uniformed men.

He's owned companies ranging from antique stores to Christmas tree plantations, and he expects Seadogs to make money.

Halifax&#;s Night Spa: an intimate review

Halifax • Wayves Staff •

If you ask the people, especially the men, to list what they think of for queer spaces, the topic of bathhouses is near the foremost. The dark places full of masc dudes where you can go after the bar or during a free afternoon to chill out in the tub, or chat with like-minded gents. Perhaps the right hunk catches your eye and you get him back to your roomette or you take a spin through the darkroom where your eye has very little to do with it. The bath is a temple of no-strings gay sex -- or at least it was until Halifax's Seadogs Sauna closed in

At Gottingen Street, in the same place and mostly layout as Seadogs, then Torpedo, then very briefly Sauna GI Joe, then Seadogs again, is Bedtime Spa: “Halifax's only mixed gender, private members, clothing optional Spa.”

Last week, Wayves sent your lady out into the night with nothing but her towel and shower shoes for protection (and of course a little protection) to get the answers.

What does that mean? What are the changes? Is the hot tub stil
