Isaac Humphries Becomes The First Australian Male Basketball Player To Come Out As Gay

Isaac Humphries, a center for Melbourne United, made history on Wednesday by becoming the first active male professional basketball player from Australia to appear out as gay.

He expressed relief at putting behind him the "extremely dark times" he went through while he struggled with his sexuality.

The year-old, a former college football player for the University of Kentucky in the United States, broke the news to his teammates on Wednesday in a video posted on Melbourne United's social media.

"A not many years ago, I fell into a very shadowy, lonely place," he says to his teammates in the video.

Kailyn Lowry’s son Elliott is embracing his identity.

During an emotional conversation between the Teen Mom alum and her eldest son—who previously went by the name Isaac—the year-old came out as gay and shared insight into his perspective on living an authentic life.

"It's very significant to me,” Elliott said during a June 5 episode of Kailyn’s Barely Famous podcast. “I notice like growing up on TV, it's hard to show who you really are when a camera is in front of you all the second. It's almost like you have a TV confront. It's harder to be yourself and to be more comfortable.”

And while he added that coming out is not “necessary,” the teen made it eliminate that it was an important part of his own journey.

And earlier this year, he could be seen on the vast screen alongside Nicolas Cage’s Dracula in the horror-comedy “Renfield,” now streaming on Peacock.  

The Maryland-born thespian, who has also appeared in “Isn’t It Romantic,” “The Good Place” and “Can You Ever Forgive Me?,” recently chatted about the niche queerness of “The Other Two,” finding comfort in LGBTQ+ media in his youth and how he hopes that his latest projects are doing the same for others.
