One of the hottest gay destinations in the US of A is Saugatuck, a tiny petty beachside village in Michigan with a massive reputation in the queer collective. How is this so? They not only have over LGBTQ+ businesses (owned or operating as a gay space) but also include many brilliant parade events and one of the most prominent gay holiday destinations, The Dunes Resort. So, you can bet that it would be an understatement to describe Saugatuck just as a minuscule bit queer!
Stepping outside of the rainbow cloud, Saugatuck has many more exceptional things that create it a delightful place to check in. It may contain a year history, however, it has remained relatively tiny despite its years.

How to Get There: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
You know it’s “small town USA” when there are no major airports, train stations, or bus terminals in town. Regardless of how you prefer to travel, your time spent in Saugatuck/Douglas is worth every moment of the journey.
Planes: The nearest major airport is Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids, about a minute drive from Saugatuck/Douglas. From the airport, you can rent a car or use a shuttle service.

Although it maintains a relatively low profile outside the region, the charming and artsy “twin towns” of Saugatuck and Douglas are the most significant gay resort destination in the Midwest. A little more than two hours from Chicago and three hours from Detroit, this laid-back area bids a bounty of polished restaurants, handsome B&Bs, dapper boutiques and antiques shops, and more than 25 high-quality art galleries, as well picturesque beach frontage on Lake Michigan. The pace here is beautiful chill – it&#;s not a nightlife-driven singles destination but rather a picturesque, all-American community that affords visitors the opportunity to get away from it all while still enjoying access to plenty of great diversions.
Generally, when people mention Saugatuck they&#;re also referring to the neighboring village of Douglas, which share the same very helpful tourism office; the Saugatuck-Douglas Visitors Bureau () is actually where many of the area&#;s gay-o
